Roller conveyors are designed to transport single pieces of any shape, size and weight. The moving of the parts is done directly (in the presence of a flat surface) or by means of a transport satellite on freely rotating rollers. They are applicable in every area of production and warehouses. On the basis of roller conveyors, relatively easy and low-cost random tracks, even those with a very complex configuration, such as branching, arcs at different angles, different levels, slopes, connections to other machines and transport systems, are being constructed.
BASIC RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE SELECTION OF ROLLS
Factors to consider when choosing rollers and constructing roller conveyors are the weight, size and type of surface of the product being transported. When this surface is smooth and sufficiently stiff, the requirement is that the load be worn by at least 3 rolls. Of course, the larger the number of rollers (a smaller step between the adjacent rollers), the more floating is the movement (Figure 1)
When the transported product is not of a smooth and hard surface (sacks, packs, etc.), and has irregular shape with sharp edges, the number of rollers should be increased (Figure.2)
The load capacity of the rolls Fr is determined by the formula:
Fr> Ft / n. k, where:
Fr is the load capacity of the catalogue roll
Ft is the maximum weight of the transported product
n is the number of carrier rolls on which the product enters at the same time
k is a coefficient that takes account of the uneven distribution of the load
k = 1.5 on 3 carrier rollers
k = 2 on more than 3 rolls
